Banning phone use while driving is all the rage these days -- despite evidence suggesting it doesn't help -- and now California's the latest to join the bandwagon. The law, which goes into effect January 1, 2008, requires the use of a hands-free device when chatting behind the wheel, lest some Erik Estrada type pulls you over and slaps you with a $20 fine.
Repeat offenders get their fine upped to $50, but apparently has no adverse effect on the driver's insurance premium; we suspect a sizable number of Californians are going to view an occasional $50 chat with a CHiP as more of a price of doing business than a deterrent (but then again, maybe that's the idea). And no, being parked in LA traffic won't count as an exemption.
Banning hand held units but allowing hands free units does nothing to diminish the cognitive distraction and effectively hides the problem. In any case, cell phone use while driving is only one of many distractors affecting driving. It is being singled out, however, because it is one of the only visible ones from outside the vehicle. Banning hand held units but allowing hands free units makes no sense.

Canada Car Insurance Company
There are also trust companies, credit unions and other small banks who typically offer higher interest rates as well. The fact of the matter is, Canadians tend to be conservative with their money and do tend to trust the big banks the most and keep their money there.
Drivers need to know that they can't guess which insurance company will give them their best rate, based simply on the vehicle's safety record. Drivers need to find the insurance companies which are targeting their rates for all aspects of their specific profile, to find the best rate.
Other insurance companies were also reported to be vying for similar action. Patrons Group, based in Connecticut, is requesting permission to discontinue policies for customers in Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts who live within three-quarters of a mile from the coast if they don't install hurricane shutters.

While the salesman is busy convincing you that you can own that new car for no money down and only $300 a month, you should be doing some calculating on your own. "Plan on spending 17 percent of your total monthly budget on all automotive expenses," says Lisa Smith, finance manager for a South Florida car dealership. "If you're buying a new car, your warranty will cover major repairs, but you'll still have to pay for routine maintenance. A new car will also mean higher insurance costs." If your old car is costing you more in repairs than a new car would cost, then you should consider buying a new one. Otherwise, avoid the temptation. more...

Yes, I would say with regard to jewellery, we have a lot of complaints arising from jewellery because, when thieves or robbers come into your house, the first thing they go for are firearms and jewellery, and then people who havent had certificates obtained with regard to the jewellery, they have considerable difficulty then subsequently improving the value of their claim. The mere fact that they valued a ring for R25 000 doesnt mean that that ring is worth that amount, and if you havent got a photograph or a record from a reputable jeweller, youre going to have difficulty in proving the actual value of that jewellery. So my advice would be, get certificates from a reputable jeweller in respect of each item of jewellery that you want to have insured.
