Credit Services is the bit people know best — it provides credit-checking services for companies ranging from banks to telecoms companies. Over the past 15 years financial institutions have become increasingly sophisticated in the way in which they handle information — preferring Experian’s credit-scoring techniques and percentage predictions on the likelihood that customers will repay their debts, to plain-old intuition.
The concern for Britain is that, so far, the reach of India Inc into the its market has not been reciprocal. Cobra boss Karan, now Lord, Bilimoria, came to Britain as a 19-year-old student, and made his fortune developing an Indian beer for Britain’s Indian restaurants. He is now chairman of the Indo-British Partnership, which promotes trade and investment between the two countries and brings together its ministers and leading business figures to help overcome barriers.
