Less Expensive Insurance...

Supplemental insurance is less expensive, not as broad in coverage and is designed for a specific condition or ailment. According to Hambright, a person can purchase supplemental insurance for a specified event such as heart attack, cancer or hospital confinement policy. A person could also purchase a supplemental insurance policy as a backup policy for an expensive condition such as cancer. Even though major medical does cover cancer, the hospital charges from such an ailment tend to be very expensive, and after major medical has paid its part of the bill the patient is often left with a large bill. The supplemental insurance would aid in paying part of the leftover balance.
